If he has legal residency in the U.S., you can return. If you do, you'll find all your debts (interest plus, court fees, etc) waiting for him. If he has legal residency in the U.S., I certainly hope that has maintained its tax filing U.S. statements taxes? If not, the IRS has very little sense of humor about that sort of thing.
