free credit cards in india
how will i be charged for excess baggage on air india?

i am a first time air traveler . actually second time coz i have already made a journey from delhi to tokyo. now i shall be returning from tokyo to delhi on air india this week. the maximum free checked in baggage limit is 20 kg but now i may be having about 26 kg. i know the excess baggage fee is 1.5 % of highest normal economy ticket per kg but what i want to know is that
1) would i be required to remove some of my excess baggage to be placed separately and classified as chargeable? (its very difficult to open a packed luggage)
2) as i shall be departing from tokyo, i hope they will charge in yen coz i wont be having much INR (are Credit Cards accepted?)
3) do they do all these procedures in the check in line or they keep aside passengers with excess baggage (its kinda embarrassing to be pulled aside)
and i mean 26 kg of check in luggage (my carry on baggage is already full)

This sounds similar situation most of them fall into. Excess baggage.

Don’y worry. I’ll help you out .
You have mentioned about check in luggage weight as 26 kgs but haven’t mentioned your carry-on luggage or hand luggage. Since you can carry upto 7 kg of luggage in to it, you can transfer some stuff like clothes, choclates, etc. from the check-in luggage and put it into hand luggage.

Put arround 21 kgs to 22 kgs into check-in luggage and remainder into hand carry.

Secondly they will charge you in YEN definitely, but do ask them if they accept major currencies like USD, Euro or GB pound sterling. Hardly any country accepts Indian rupees as currency. So Don’t worry.
You can also pay the extra charge through credit card, no problem in that only if your credit card is international one. Secondly if you are paying through credit card check your credit limit and pay as anything above credit limit will be charged very generously by the bank.

They accept everything at the check-in. They accept your luggages also but do not give your boarding passes. You can Pay at the check-in counter or their are information counters/office desk of respective airlines at airport where you can pay. Since credit card payment would need a telephone line for payment may be (I’m not sure) it cannot happen at check-in counter but at airlines help-desk.
After showing them the payment receipt they issue the boarding pass.

Have a Nice Flight!! Have a Safe Journey!!

India goes for nat ID card with biometric details of every Indian over 15yo: but caste-free at last?
